PonyBoy: For the very few of you who are still logging on, have you heard of any more ABB dates for the summer? I thought an e-mail was sent awhile ago about dates to be announced for the Carolinas and Virginia, but I haven't seen anything official yet.&

Hey PB! Hope all is well with you.
Thought I'd post this at the top so the writing box would be as large as possible.

No, I have not heard of Outside Providence but I know that it is exciting to hear ABB references and/or songs in movies. {For us ABB nuts, anyway!
}And I have not even heard about a Shining Mini Series. I too enjoyed the book and the movie. My mom belonged to Double Day when I was a kid and she was a SK fan nearly from the beginning of his career so we have a lot of first edition SK Double Days, including The Shining. And I always read the newest arrival after she read it. I remember reading the 'Hedge' section/chapter and not being able to turn the page. Stephen is the master of suspense IMO.
Yes, I read Rage but I don't remember it very well. I remember some SK stories and books better than others. I've read all of SK's stuff including his non fiction except for Carrie and The Green Mile. Have you read most or all of his work? {Just as an aside: Stephen mentioned my dad's Barbershop Quartet 'The Mello Men' in Misery but stupidly, I did not bookmark the page and never was able to find it again after leafing through the pages a number of times. I don't think I'll read it again either because although it was excellent {and I liked the movie too}, it was pretty gruesome and I don't think I want to revisit it.}
Speaking of Richard Bachman, I just read Blaze, the last RB book and recently released in paperback. A good story, if you have not read it. Currently, I'm reading Duma Key, SK's newest.
And yes, I saw Grace Potter open for the Mule in Toronto last year and enjoyed her show.
I'm going to post this, take a quick break and be back to finish up.
I'm baaack...!
So, last weekend I saw Mavis Staples, John Sebastian and Canned Heat. Also, got to hear the last song in Country Joe's set: I Think I'm Fixin To Die Rag. We were able to catch Mavis' set here and then jump in the car and drive to Hamilton {about an hour away} to the other festival to see the other acts. Weather was horrible...rain... so we stood under umbrellas in the pouring rain watching Mavis' set. So glad I got the chance to hear her. She was a class act and so was her band. Very moving when she talked about MLK and great to hear her do The Weight. JS and Canned Heat were good too but really, Mavis was awesome and not to be missed if you get the chance to hear her!
Sandy's birthday is this Sunday so we are going to Toronto Sat. to hear our favourite trad jazz band The Happy Pals. Haven't had a chance all summer to get to hear them so we are looking forward to it. {And the weather is supposed to be good for a change!}
Thought I'd ask what your favourite Internet reading is. Other than the ABB site, my favourites are The Huffington Post and Salon esp. Salon's political blogger/writer Glenn Greenwald. He is amazing and I try to keep up with all his posts.
That's all for now, PB. Hope you have a great week!
Heloooo Mo, I mean PB.
Thought I'd pop over here for a change of pace and also to see if your emoticons and paragraphs are working here.
I don't even know what most of those emoticons represent. Maybe I should just start clicking on them for the hell of it.

I loved Shawshank Redemption. I'm a big Stephen King fan. Don't like all of the movie treatments {including ones he's been involved in} but I liked SR, The Green Mile and The Dead Zone {also one of my fave SK novels}. I have re-read and re-watched The Dead Zone a couple of times. Do you like Stephen King and read SK?
We recorded Syriana {but have not yet watched} with George Clooney. Have you seen that movie?
Thanks for your supportive comments about Roger. Seems like he is truly being overtaken right now and needs to get his ummm...stuff together. I guess it's hard {or impossible}to stay on top forever.
I like the Simpsons too but my hubby Sandy is the really big S. fan. I think Homer is a bad influence on him!
Is that a Beer emoticon?
Have you seen the Simpsons movie? We have not yet, but Sandy wants to see it.
Have not seen Shark Week and do not watch Discovery Channel!
I did turn DC on the other night as a result of your comments and watched Rogue Animals: Bears. Very interesting. Definitely held my attention.
Re: Twilight Zone...not sure if I ever saw the one with Telly Savalas but I do have an image in my mind of a doll with very large eyes. Am I imagining that or did that doll have very large eyes?! I was a Telly S. fan though. Used to watch Kojak all the time.
I likely will be checking out the Olympics--mostly gymnastics, track and field and of course, Tennis! Tennis for sure!
This weekend is my last {as far as I know} live musical event for a while--until the Mule visits TO in the fall {hopefully} or winter {not hopefully--waaay to cold}. Our city has a blues festival this weekend and I was thinking of seeing Mavis Staples on Sunday OR Festival of Friends in Hamilton {one hour away} has Country Joe, Canned Heat and John Sebastian also on Sunday. Tough call who to see.
Hope you had a great time at the Crowes show, PB. I'm suuure you did!
And hey, enjoy the Fantasy Football! We have a friend who is also involved with that.
Have a great week, PB!
Hello, is there anybody in there?
Hey there, Lady M! Glad to see you 'round these parts. Very nice use of the emoticons -- the one I just used above is one I've never even seen before. I just the pink one due to my Floyd reference!
I'm a big Stephen King fan myself, LM. My all-time favorite is "The Shining," both book and movie. I really liked the Jack Nicholson version, but SK was not too happy how it differed from the book. His mini-series version, I thought, was fantastic. Did you ever see that? Also, I totally agree with your comment about the film/TV projects that he is usually involved in. Prime example: "Maximum Overdrive." Loved the soundtrack (AC/DC is one of my faves!), but the movie itself was horrendous. Other than that, I have a lot of SK books that I've read. Ever heard of "Rage" before, LM? It's a collection of 4 stories written when SK was going under the pseudonym "Richard Bachman." Highly recommended.
Have not seen "Syriana," but I heard it's really good. I did see "The Simpsons Movie" (my brother owns it on DVD), and I thought it was really good. BTW, yes, you did use a beer emoticon! Great comment about Homer's bad influence, too!
I believe the doll on the Twilight Zone episode did have big eyes, but it's been awhile since I've seen it myself. Cool to hear that you checked out the Discovery Channel -- we actually watch that pretty often when there's not much else on. Tonight, the Steelers had their first pre-season game. It's cool to see all the guys that you know will be released in few weeks try their hardest. Had a chance to go to the game, but I'm still pretty beat from the earlier part of the week -- the concerts!
That brings me to my Crowes and Radiohead experiences, LM! The Crowes were phenomenal -- a lot more jamming than I thought. Some new tunes, and some lesser-known. The crowd, I thought, was pretty lame (Chris and Rich were even talking smack to the security guards for being too strict!). Overall, a fantastic show. Among my favorites: "Another Roadside Tragedy," "My Morning Song," and "Wounded Bird."
The opener -- Grace Potter & the Nocturnals -- were also excellent. Did you ever hear/see them before, LM? Very cool, Janis-like vocals and cool, funk-rock sound.
Radiohead: unbelievable. Not sure if you're a fan, LM, but they are jaw-dropping. Incredible light show, fantastic song selection, and just a phenomenal experience.
Sounds like you have quite the decision on your hands on the concert front. I don't think you can go wrong. Mavis Staples puts on a helluva show, but Country Joe, Canned Heat, and John Sebastian would also be cool. Let me know what you decide and how it turns out, Lady M!
BTW, a movie called "Outside Providence" is just starting on TV here. Ever seen it? It's a great flick -- plus the ABB is mentioned and "Liz Reed" is played in it!
My concert lineup is dwindling as well. May go see Melvin Seals and JGB next Thursday, and nothing much else until October.
Well, that's about all for now, Lady M! Hope you're enjoying your weekend! Have a great week, and have a great time at your show -- whichever one it may be!
I still haven't recovered from "The Season that Was." Thanks for the comment, brother. Lookin' forward to next season!
Amen, brother! Welcome!
